King of the Compact: X-E4 vs X100V vs X-S10 vs X-E3

The new Fujifilm X-E4 has finally arrived. The previous iteration of this legacy rangefinder styled compact interchangeable lens camera from Fujifilm was the most compact in their lineup with the top end sensor and processor. Could Fujifilm make is smaller and still ad a front flipping articulating screen? The answer is yes! How is that possible? Another question: Which is the best compact Fujifilm camera? The X-E4, X100V, X-S10 or the previous X-E3? Watch my first look video where I discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each camera. Also check out KEH's article on their blog on the X100V:

I am glad that Fuji is continuing the X-E line. But I have mixed feelings about the X-E4. Too many compromises (lack of grips, and decreasing number of buttons and dials) for the sake of minimalism. I wish Fuji kept the overall design of the X-E3 and added new features (tilt screen, new sensor, new af system, new film simulations, improved video capabilities, etc), but it seems like they didn't. I am keeping my X-E3.

Thanks for the comparison, the people that are complaining about a lack of IBIS certainly don't understand who this camera is for. Photography is an experience and this camera is perfect for anyone that has been taking photos with a smartphone wants to dip their toes into a camera system but still has enough knowledge to know that as they grow in photography, they can grow with the equipment. It is slim, pocketable especially with that 27mm pancake and has the processing power of the recent releases so image quality is gonna be up there. This is supposed to be a versatile camera that can either be used by a street photographer (this is why it doesn't have a flippy screen like the X-S10) or slap on a wide or zoom lens with a bigger profile AS YOU GROW with the camera and what you're looking for evolves.

Finally, photography is also challenging and satisfying. Taking an awesome shot with this thing handheld is gonna be more satisfying than taking a shot with any camera with IBIS. Want a grip? It comes with it as an accessory. I can purchase the X-E4 with the pancake 27mm, the Rokinon 12mm 2.0 and Viltrox 85mm 1.8 for about $1800 USD. I also don't have to buy all the lens at the same time. That's three different setups for an avid enthusiast to grow with or even a pro to use (pancake setup) as a challenge. Before this release, the only options Fuji had for someone that already has basic knowledge was the X-Pro2, X-Pro-3, X-T3, X-T4 which all cost around $1800 with one lens, maybe more and all are bigger. If you're going to say, buy used....not everyone that's willing to grow as a photographer wants to buy a used camera that was released 3+ years ago.

I have an X-E3, and all I felt it lacked was a flippy screen. So I was excited when I heard that the X-E4 had it...then I got progressively more disappointed with all the things they moved around or removed all together. No doubt that the camera looks great, but I feel they've sacrificed too much in the name of aesthetics. Agree that the real competition within Fuji cameras is the X-E4 and XS-10 at this level.

The focus selector, I totally feel your pain! I don't even like the switch on the X100v

Here in the UK you can buy the camera body only for £799 or with the front and rear grips for £899 sold as an accessory pack. With the new 27mm lens it’s £949 w/o the grips.

I bought the x-t30 as a family camera. Then my needs changed, and I needed to make more videos; The time limit on the x-t30 and the 4GB CLIPS slowed my production down. So I sold my x-t30 for the xs-10. It was the best decision I made. The xs-10 is an excellent all-arounder that can do many things. But that x-t30 is beautiful and fantastic at taking pictures. My biggest complaint about the xs- 10 is that there is no focus knob.

I think I first found your channel from looking up the X-E2.
Best analysis so far - without even having the camera <3

I think a lot of semi-pro were tempted to buy the X100V for the WR, but got second thoughts about the single card slot. Otherwise it would have been a good companion/backup camera. Any camera incl. X-E4 with no WR or a single card slot just don't give you the confidence. I am happy about the new 27mm WR, I will get it for sure.

Silly as it sounds, the focus select lever was one of Fuji's selling points for me. Not on its own, but if you count all the other tactile controls, it was a selling points. I don't like what they've done to the X-E4. If at least they had left the focus select lever, some of the programmable buttons, and put the AF joystick a little higher, I wouldn't mind this camera. Although I'd miss the rear dial for ISO. But just as it is, I'm indifferent. I'd rather get an X-E3, honestly. However, I must say that the new screen is a welcome addition.

I've been waiting and waiting for this announcement. It's not perfect (wish there were more customizable buttons and dials), but other than that, it's what I hoped for. Small enough for my purse, perfect for street photography, tilt up screen instead of selfy type. Pre ordered mine today. I have the XT3 and think this will be a good complement to the larger size camera.

I prefer my xt 30. Bought it over a year ago as my first camera and will stay for at least few more years.

Great video thank you! For a total amateur would you say having fewer buttons and dials is ok? Or is better to have those extra buttons and dials? Honestly part of my thinking is that my five year could go out shooting with me (I have the XT-3). And then we will have a lightweight traveling camera. From many of the comments here or elsewhere, it seems that the removal of the easy access buttons is a big loss. ALSO is having IBIS really important? Thanks, for your thoughts.

Been a long time curious with fuji, but the controls and horrible ergonomic made me stick with regular dslr and sony A73. Well the XS10 seem to be the best entry level to fuji world for me.

I like the rectangular strap lug mount. It seems like a throwback to some classic film cameras and lets you use a flat strap with no jingly split rings. A bit more minimal and maybe they saved some cost not having to supply those triangle rings with the tool. 😃

Disappointed with Fuji didn’t update the AF motor on the 27mm mk2.

I confess I went into full nerd mode, squinted at many a pictures of Fuji X bodies and IBIS units with a ruler and looked up the occasional ifixit Fuji X disassembly.
Owning an X-E3, I can say, the main body of the X-E4 is as thick. Which is an achievement as it includes the flippy screen.
I understand, leaving out some buttons and dials is for cost saving, esp. the MCS selector.
I can also understand the X-S10 price point assuming it has a potential to sell better than an X-E with the same feature set - i. e IBIS included. I'm prepared to accept an X-E2 sized body that may have to be a bit thicker (main body size like X-T4).
But I'm not prepared to shell out IBIS and built in portability money for two accessories just for me to like holding the X-E4 in hand while walking.

Also, X100V has a leaf shutter. Higher sync speeds for flash.
