One of the most important concepts which choosing and testing an RFID tag is the concept of SOAP - tag size, orientation, angle, and placement. In this series all about RFID tag SOAP, we will discuss how each of these concepts relates to an RFID tag's read range.

In this video, we will talk about how RFID tag placement correlates to read range by comparing trying to read two tags on a cardboard box. The difference is that one tag will be directly in front of liquid (Diet coke bottle) and the other tag will be above the liquid, at the top of the bottle. Because liquid absorbs RF energy, we are able to see a very large difference between the read rate and RSSI of the RFID tags on the box.
