Ive used expedia for years and now I know to never do this whenever I'm doing a reservation of any kind just in case. I hope this saves you guys the headache that it caused me. It really did ruin my whole vacation and I would of done so many things differently had I known. @Expedia

Sorry that happened to you. That’s why I prefer to rent a car through the company directly. I’ve dealt with Expedia before. It is not fun when they do shady things like this.

Wow I’m glad I saw this, I will not be pre paying for a rental. I worked our PR honeymoon with Priceline for flights and hotel and I was going to add the car rental but never mind thanks girl for info. I hope it all works out and you got your money back because that is ridiculous

Ugh wow that is horrible!!! Ever since I started working in the hotel industry I refuse to use third party for anything Expedia etc do this all the time even with hotel rooms!

God! This is so true! This is one of the main reasons why I like to book directly straight from the site vs third party apps/website ! Because if something happens you can’t settle with them, you do have to go back through the third party that you paid with and bend over backwards trying to fix the situation and they give you such a hard time! It’s so unfair how they do that ! So you really do have to be very careful.
I always go directly to the original site when it comes to bigger purchases like plane tickets, car rentals, accommodation. I know we try to get things at a discounted price because those apps/ third parties offer cheaper and better options as it looks and sounds but sometimes with all that possible unnecessary hassle; like dang I was better off just paying the regular full price straight from the source or exactly another rental place cause now I’m about to be paying double plus with having to go through an inconvenient situation.

I definitely understand, 😪 it can be annoying!

But yes I told myself that now I book straight from the source it self vs third party like Expedia, that way if anything does happened, I feel like I can easily confront the company and get my refund better or the problem resolved quicker vs
them turning around and saying that “oh sorry, there’s nothing we can do since you booked with another third party”.
And less of the “He said, she said” card they try to bounce back and forth on ya!
Leaving you on the hook !

I'm really hate you had to go through that. But I'm glad you're sharing it, so thank you I really hate when a company inconvenience you by. not having their side of the contract by not having the car, but then want you to go through hoops. to get your money back more frustration. That is so ridiculous If you all didn't have a car and it was totally your fault. Why are you sending people through hoops They should have gave you your money back the second they didn't have a car. Ridiculous.

Take photos/video when you turn-in rental cars, and be sure to include a PHOTO/video OF the FULL GAS TANK if you filled it up yourself (and keep your gasoline receipt!! There was this new rental car company I tried out in Los Angeles LAX, and the car return attendant tried to charge me $89 for refilling my "empty gas tank"; but luckily I'd taken a full video of my car along with showing the full gas tank view and submitted that to customer service, and they didn't charge me.

Something similar happened to my family too when we vacationed in San Diego, except it was for a hotel. The receptionist claimed we booked through Expedia when we DID NOT, we booked through my sister's company! So we first called the hotel Chain (Extended Stay America) and they said we did have confirmation and should be given a room! Yet the receptionist kept saying NO even after talking with the Hotel Chain Rep *roll eyes* Then we contacted Expedia and Expedia said they have NO record with us which proves the receptionist was lying! Finally, we called my sister's company and were given a different hotel, which we were happy with cause those people at Extended Stay America are SHADY!! So always be careful not just with third party but with shady companies!

This happened to me. I rented a car through Expedia and the price was 600 somthing. But yes I can only pay upfront. When I went and pick it up, the price was more than 1000 for 5 days. I had no choice but to get it because I needed it. Guys please be careful

Great video and in our experience we always pay with our credit card that if something like that happens, they have our backs with our proof only just make sure to record and you won’t have to go through Expedia, which are companies that take advantages of companies in other countries and they look like it’s overbooking, but it’s Expedia

Thank you so much for sharing this..my wife and I are planning a trip for my birthday and I've been telling her that I have a bad feeling about rental a car through Expedia and you just confirmed it. Im sorry this happened to you and I pray you got your money back.. I will not be booking a rental through them ever!

Same thing happened to me. We ended up waiting about 30 min and a car eventually came. It’s much better to rent using TURO with an individual or smaller rental companies.

It occurred to me today I did a reservation with Expedia, and when I arrived at Avis Counter in Cartagena, they didn't have cars. Avis canceled my reservation that I had made more than 20 days before, and Expedia didn't tell me about the at. More than that, they didn't do anything to try to help me with my problem. That's disrespectful, I will never book anything with Expedia. very bad company

Don’t go through Expedia for rentals. I was going the affordable route and found a rental in Jalisco for $169 and only had to pay $92 upon my arrival. The insurance I believe was $13 a day so I got it. I was renting the car for 13 days. But once I got there, the lady at the counter said the insurance wasn’t even accepted in Mexico and that the $92 I was going to pay was for the car and I had options for a basic, intermediate, or full coverage insurance which the basic insurance came out to about $750 dollars. I immediately told them to call me a taxi because I was not going to pay for insurance AGAIN, that was too much for what I originally thought I was going to pay. She said hold on and gave me a cheaper price of $520 but I still didn’t accept. Thank God where I was staying was only 30 minutes away from the airport but that literally ruined my plans. Don’t go through Expedia please. This just happened to me last night so I’m going to try to get my refund today.

Omg I am having a similar issue with Expedia right now. Expedia charged my card when I booked the rental initially and when I went to pick up the car at Dollar they asked for my credit card and charged me again saying that was as a hold with the expectation that one of the charges would be reversed. That never happened and Expedia is refusing to refund me one of the charges. Mind you this is on top of Dollar not having a car ready for me up on arrival. I had to wait for more than two hours before they found one. At this point Only legal action would make them pay it seems.

I’ve been around the world and was in Latin America and Southwest Asia for a few years and now you know … there’s a reason why everyone is trying to get out most of these countries and Puerto Rico… this is a standard scam with rental car companies in third world countries and small countries … Now you know 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️🙄🤦‍♂️
