I read Nicholas and Alexandra this year, and I absolutely fell in love with the Romanov family. Massie is an incredible author who writes as if I was standing in the room as the events unfold! I'm planning on reading The Final Chapter next and then move onto the other ones. I'm glad to find other people who love reading and learning about this family as much as I do!

Bought Dreadnought at a flea market in Belleville Illinois. I am 60 years old and am retired military. I read it as a jewel. Max Hastings and Robert Massie are amazing.

I found Massie’s “Nicholas and Alexandra” in my High School library in 1997! I was hooked on the Romanovs after that, and got my hands on every book he wrote. I began expanding my interest on all the other royal families of Europe. Thank you for making a post about this author. He’s my favorite.

Great reviews. I bought Peter the Great and read it 3 times. It is a page turner, so the length didn't dissuade me from reading it. For me, the culturally shattering direction that he was able to move Russia was the interesting topic in that book; building the country, step by step, into a world power. Massie is a great story teller so you can appreciate his work on many levels. I have Nicholas and Alexandra and Dreadnought sitting on the shelf, waiting to be read.

Terrific book review. I've been a fan of Massie's work since reading Peter the Great back in college in the early 90s. I went on to read everything he ever published. What a great writer. Not only did he manage to do amazing research, but he created a stirring narrative for every subject.

Thank you for a great video! I myself read and write a lot about the Romanovs and other royal families. If these fine books have been translated into Russian, I have great pleasure in reading them. While I can not read them in the original.

I hope you do a review of RKM book "Dreadnaught", anyone wanting to understand the prime issues between the European powers leading up to World War One this is a must read. All in all this was a fantastic video, saw your books on Comrade Stalin too ...excellent. :)

I read Nicholas and Alexandra based on your high opinion of Massie a couple months ago. It was really good and thorough.

I read Massie's Dreadnought book about a period which I though I knew reasonably well only to discover that I really knew nothing. His book was so detailed and enjoyable to read. Based on your review I feel the same may well be true of the Romanov history. I feel I know about this period and events but I think Massie's books will change all that.

As always, a great video. I haven't read anything by Robert Massie but certainly will now.
Hearing about Catherine the Great reminded me of a novel I think you just might enjoy (if you haven't read it already).
It is "The Eight" by Katherine Neville.

I loved this video and I'm so interested in Russian history and the Romanovs, I'd love to see more videos of you talking about them! I own "Nicholas and Alexandra" and "Catherine, the Great" but unfortunately haven't read them yet. Now they'll definitely be in my 2017 TBR!

I'm going to pick up Nicholas now. Please make a video of rating all Russian books you've read if you haven't already done
