^^Everything we purchased after this incident. Things could have gone a lot worse, and we were very fortunate to have the footage that we do have. I stopped thinking about it as just a way to notify me of someone at the door, but also evidence. That evidence can be a life saver and I will also have some type of camera on my front door with plenty of lighting. Please do your family a favor and be as secure as possible and please be safe!

Follow Up ⬆️ Video: ATF Encounter Guide: Do NOT Answer The Door

What a day! Somehow we managed to have the ATF and the Police both show up at my parents' house on the SAME day. How did it happen? An in-depth background search was triggered when my brother bought two firearms from a local gun store, one of which happened to be stolen. The ATF shows up in an unmarked vehicle, plain clothes which makes my mom think that we have someone trying break into our house. What does she do? She calls the cops on the ATF!

Comment your ATF interactions!

If you're guilty you need a lawyer, if you're innocent you definitely need a lawyer.

The parents definitely did the right thing by calling the police. They ( anyone) can easily be impersonating ATF agents. NEVER open the door for anyone! Way to go parents!👍

I wish the government would show this level of dedication to tracking down proven criminals.

My parents had a gun store when I was a kid. The ATF agents I met were some of the most abrasive, pushy, a-holes you can imagine. The agents would wait for us to open and barge in before my mom could even disarm the alarm. We had to be present to answer questions, so waiting on customers was fairly difficult. Our violations were typically somebody answering N instead of NO on a 4473 or something similar, but they'd act like we were mafia kingpins. No way in hell I'd leave work to meet them at home

Never trust anyone who shows up with a smile and says we’re from the government. Period….

Never talk to law enforcement without a LAWYER PRESENT ... even if you did nothing wrong or you know you are 100% innocent ....you still NEED A LAWYER .

If anyone like this shows up at your door your first step should be an to call the police. Tell them someone is armed, banging on your door and threatening you.

Glad to hear that this turned out ok. I never would have let the ATF get that far. "Sorry, I am not answering any questions. Talk to my lawyer." They have destroyed their credibility as an agency along with the FBI. I will NEVER cooperate with either one. Get a warrant and I'll get the item for you. Otherwise, I have no business with you.

NO WARRANT NO TALK. If they have a warrant, get a lawyer. NEVER EVER EVER talk to ANY law enforcement official.

FYI: It's legal for law enforcement, including the ATF, to lie to you. Never ever speak to them w/o a lawyer.

I'm glad no dogs were harmed in the process.

Federal agencies aren't known for being forthright about anything until they absolutely have to.

Warrants should require a bond and insurance policy for any damage or injury that cops cause.

If they don't have an arrest warrant they are there to try to get you to talk your way into cuffs.

Yeah for some reason buying two guns at one time will flag the A.T.F.
But if they knew the gun was STOLEN, why didn't they go to the store for it?

I read through comments and numerous people are saying the same thing.... get an attorney, don't talk to any agency, etc. It's absolutely FRUSTRATING that we, as citizens, have to take on the huge cost of an attorney before an encounter with gov't agencies that are PAID by our tax dollars, and are SUPPOSED to exist to serve the public. That's not what I call a "free country." I'm glad all worked out well for you and your brother.

So you bought a gun from a dealer who purchased a sold a stolen gun? Honest question....Isn't it part of the purchasing process as a dealer to verify the gun isn't stolen? If not it certainly should be.
