GDP is a disingenuous argument when you consider California’s cost of living is over 17% higher than Florida’s not to mention the 9% income tax on that $96k average. Housing costs are unaffordable for a medium income family in most areas of California.

Comparing GDP per capita is irrelevant without considering Cost Of Living stats.

And when you factor in cost of living your argument completely falls apart.
If per capita income is 20% higher, but your cost of living is 40% higher you would actually experience a decreased quality of life.
Also with the rolling power outages, and a whole host of other self inflicted wounds I doubt the folks leaving California in droves agree with newsome

This isn’t even a debate — California v. Florida. Putting aside the most recent annual CNBC study which ranks Florida as the 10th worst state to live in the US, California is mountains, beaches, culture, tech development, design… Florida is beaches and swampland.
Wild fires and hurricanes cancel each other out.
