Welcome to The Chemist Corner! Today, we're talking about the rarest naturally occurring element on Earth: astatine.

Astatine is a radioactive element with the symbol At and atomic number 85. It is so rare because all of its isotopes are short-lived. The most stable isotope, astatine-210, has a half-life of just 8.1 hours.

Astatine is found in the Earth's crust only as a decay product of various heavier elements, such as uranium and thorium. It is estimated that there is less than one gram of astatine in the Earth's crust at any given time.

Astatine is a very interesting element, but it is also very dangerous. Because it is so radioactive, it can cause serious health problems if it is inhaled or ingested.
