LONGEST INSECT EVER DISCOVERED

Longest Insects in the World. A new discovery has been made in Northeastern Vietnam, and it is the second longest insect ever. Just shy of the world record found in 2008, both these bugs are a type of phasmid called a stick insect. Tune in to learn more!

i saw one that was over twice the size of that one a few years back. im being totaly honest too. i love bugs and have always been interested in creepy crawlies, never hesitated to pick them up as long as they weren't dangerous or could bite too hard. my parents always gave me books on australian flora and fauna as gifts, so idenifying insects is like second nature for me, but this thing scared the crap out of me. i was walking to the train station to get to work one morning, and i was walking past the local primary school, i noticed a stick hanging on the fence a few metres ahead. as i approached i was wandering how it was just hanging there, then all of a sudden i realised it was looking back at me, the biggest stick insect i have ever seen. it was huge!!! no word of lie i reckon it was at least 80 cm from head tail and its body was as almost as thick as broom stick, it was dark brown. i really wanted to grab it and take it home but i couldn't bring myself to get within a metre of it. it was big. i had no idea they could get that big. a couple of metres over the fence in the school were a some really old enormous gum trees, im not exactly sure what type. i assumed it had come from there, must have lived right up the top. this was at Lawton in Qld Australia. a coulpe weeks later i read somewhere that the largest insect in the world was a leaf insect measuring 50 cm. now i wish i had grabbed it and taken it to the museum.

I'm a little worried about some of the people commenting.... Anyhow, I find stick insects to be very interesting. I've seen one wild and a few in captivity but none of those big boys yet. One I'd really love to see is the Lord Howe Island Stick Insect!

I recently found one giant stick insect measuring aroung 3feet long and body diameter of 2 cm. We were all supprised and scared. The next day we found anothe one. We were plant coffee saplings under huge trees. This is in North eastern India. Only if I can add a photo you guys
