My old teacher The Late Bruce Clarke told me that you learn Music the same ways you learnt English (or any other language). English involves speaking, listening, reading and writing. Music involves playing / singing, listening, reading and writing. Bruce and Jim Hall are right on the mark !

Speed for speeds sake is best left to the shredders. Note choice, thoughtful play, fits jazz better in the long run. 200 plus bpm eight note runs are there for you when the time is right.
