Forget all the comedies, this is by far the best movie for Christmas!
Not a happy film but very powerful!
Merry Christmas to all of you!

Astonishingly beautiful and moving piece of music. I was entirely convinced that it was a Scottish folk song (rather than composed for the film, which is the reality).

My grandfather would sing a few of these words and I never knew what song he was trying to sing but now that I know! He fought in WW1 from 1914-18 for Canada. This will be my final song I want. I think a soldier is one that can relate to it. He would say "going home; dreaming of home". Now that he is gone I wish I knew. He raised me as a child and I never knew!

Just this eve exactly 100 years ago the christmas truce occurred.

Being home with my family with bellies full of food and wine, revisiting this beautiful movie, can't stop wonder about how this mutual compassion for one another still exists today. Times have changed but i hope that every act of humanity today influences and is not forgotten. Wonder how the men at east Ukraine front feel right now, away from their homes and families, despite their conditions. May they come home safe.

Warm and pleasant christmas everyone. Priecīgus ziemassvētkus!

I had heard once that a similar truce occurred during in 1870 during the Franco-Prussian War but it was a bit more dramatic than what this film shows. In this case, in the middle of a pitch battle that was taking place on December 25th, a French soldier stood up and began singing a French Christmas carol. Moved by this act of bravery, a German soldier then sang another one in German and with that the battle stopped. However, I never heard what happened afterwards but at least it brought peace even if just for 10 minutes.

Hymne des fraternisés translates to Hymn of the Fraternised, which brings a more profound meaning of war at that time and how the soldiers fighting though of it really. Respect from France !

#LYRICS
I hear the mountain birds
The sound of rivers singing
A song I've often heard
It flows through me now
So clear and so loud
I stand where I am
And forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home

It's carried in the air
The breeze of early morning
I see the land so fair
My heart opens wide
There's sadness inside
I stand where I am
And forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home

This is no foreign sky
I see no foreign light
But far away am I
From some peaceful land
I'm longing to stand
A hand in my hand
...forever I'm dreaming of home
I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home

因為《Merry Christmas》這部影片,讓我聽到那麼感人的歌

Don't walk in front and be my leader, don't walk behind and be my follower, don't stand across from me and be my enemy, stand beside me and be my brother!

I remember when Paul McCartney made the video for "The Pipes of Peace". The video showed German and British soldiers in an unnamed front of WWI call a truce and decide to become friends instead of killing each other. When this video came out in 1982, I didn't know that it was based on a true story. And what is sadder is that the actions of these soldiers on both sides is not taught in history books or in history classes.
