What is unacceptable here is the artificial hardware restrictions for going to Windows 11. You could have a high end PC purchased in early 2018 and be told a few years later it will be obsolete in a couple years.. Meanwhile much lower end and slower PC"s after 2018 will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 even with only 4gig of memory which we know would be unacceptable. I believe this has been driven by the PC manufactures to to increase sales unnecessarily.

What's basically happening is that MS will be making security updates anyway, but they're getting you to pay for them if you want them. That's dodgy ground to be starting along.

Why give a company that makes billions and is very successful in multiple computing areas, even more money? I'm out in 2025.

The thing is, my PC IS hardware compatible with Windows 11 and I simply don't want to "upgrade" to it. My wife's laptop uses 11 and I don't care for the UI changes Microsoft have come up with to differentiate it from 10.
I also discovered the other day that Microsoft had installed, without my permission or notification, 4 apps, including One Drive. I thought the days of them doing this garbage were in the distant past, but here we are again having apps we don't want or need installed onto OUR PC's.

I think the main reason people are considering jumping ship to Linux, where at all feasible, is that the future for Microsoft with Windows 12, doesn't look any better. With all the A.I integration that looks more than likely to be part of 12, people are becoming increasingly frustrated with Microsoft's total intransigence.

Using rufus causes no issues to bypass hardware requirements. Fully tested and working. 👍

When I built my pc in early 2021, I over designed for win 11 in the future, but the requirements were not known at that time and Microsoft has this past year increased the hardware requirements. This past year I had found out that I cannot move to win 11 because Microsoft has decided my hardware is not up to their standards. It is poor on their part to determine that I should be buying or building a new pc every four years. I do not need that high end of a pc. My last win 7 pc with no Microsoft requirements lasted me eleven years. My new pc will be running Linux and for more than four years.

Microsoft has an agenda. There not just doing this out of the kindness of their heart. The best windows update of all time is called Linux.

I have a Windows 2000 machine that has been online for the past 24 years and has never been hacked\got any kind of malware etc. It runs dedicated software but is connected to the internet. It just means you have to be careful when online with it but yes its fine. Windows 10 will be the same when it runs out of updates. You can still use it fine but just be careful

Back in the day they extended Windows XP support for free. But you don't need the updates to use your computer safely. I'm still using windows 7 and XP in dual boot on one of my laptops and never got hacked or a virus or anything. But if you really want the updates for some reason move to Windows 10 enterprise ltsc 2021 its supported till 2032. People act like once support ends viruses automatically download to your computer just by turning it on and connecting it to the network and thats just not how it works, You have to be doing something really stupid to get infected.

I installed Windows 11 via the workarounds and the only thing I am prevented from doing is installing feature updates via the normal Windows Update process. The way I got the feature updates (for example version 23H2) was to just download the 23H2 ISO, burn it to a flash drive using Rufus which automatically applies the workarounds to it, and just upgrade from the flash drive instead of doing a fresh install. Sure it's a bit more involved but it's one way to keep Windows 11 up to date feature-wise on an unsupported PC.

Windows 7, which is superior to Windows 10, still receives daily virus updates and monthly Malicious Software Removal Tools; so I wouldn't be surprised if MS continued this practice, for free, long past 2028.

Great share. Thank you for the update, Brian. Keep up the good work.

A few days ago, I upgraded the CPU on my desktop computer and Microsoft de-activated my copy of Windows 10 which was previously activated with a digital license. I thought they only did that if you replaced your motherboard. I ended up buying another digital license to re-activate my Windows. I hope that Microsoft doesn't start deactivating Windows 10 at the drop of a hat, as a way of "encouraging" people to upgrade to Windows 11.

So you are saying that the hardware is suddenly going to wear out even if you didn't buy cheap rs chinesium audi tech?

Can’t see any reason why I would pay a cent to MS.

There's going to be a lot of people who have no choice but to run Windows 10 unsupported.

The time is coming to learn new languages with either a Linux or an Apple.

Can you please explain why any of my computers that are more than 10 years old would be "too old" by 2029? I can easily get computers from 2009 and still get them to work with reasonable performance today. You don't need to keep buying new hardware (unless you are a gamer or something). You just buy one good hardware once and keep using it.
