Artist Mithra Kamalam consistently borrows visual and literary references for their unconscious associations. These forms and narratives are appropriated into her paintings and sculptural works from a feminist subject position to stage affective encounters with her socio-political context and aspects of her biography.

Play and humour become incendiary devices in her attempt to reposition these signifiers and retrieve them from heteronormative, patriarchal readings.
