Hey guys, in this video, I'll be discussing the only 5 credit cards everyone needs in their setup to maximize rewards, travel for free, and keep more money in their pocket. I’m not naïve enough to think that there is only one specific set of 5 cards that makes sense for everyone (which could never be the case since all of our strategies are so different). Instead, I’ll be breaking down the only five TYPES of cards you need to ensure that by the end of this video, you’ll know exactly what to look for to build a rock-solid wallet for years to come. This setup is composed of a workhorse card, a cleanup card, a power card, a specialty card, and a wildcard. I’ll discuss options for each card type for team travel and team cashback respectively so everyone can leave with some ideas as to what credit card setup they may want to build. If you’ve been wondering what the best credit card setup is or what credit cards you need to maximize every dollar you spend, this video is for you!

Great video Spencer! A very smart way to think about a core setup for travel or cashback.

I only carry the Venture X, Savor, and Custom Cash. Those 3 cover all the categories for me!

one card you missed for team cash back is RH gold card. U get 3% cash back that you can invest with a fee of $60 a year for RH gold status

Hey Spencer, I heard from Shaun and Sherwin (of the Credit Card BS Podcast) that Chase was tightening down on who they approve for Inks. They said this could either be due to the Fed cutting rates or due to them clamping down on churners. Have you encountered this, or has anyone else here?

Why not also have the Savor card in the workhorse catagory for cashback? It honestly hits every major catagory outside of gas. And for Gas you could just use the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday for that or even mix it in for grocery spend.

Honestly, the Venture (non-X) should add in the 10k miles on every cardmember anniversary that the Venture X has.

Have Chase Freedome unlimited right now, which card should I get next?

Do any of the grocery multipliers include Wal-mart/Sam’s Club? (Most don’t in my experience)

Nice recommendations Spencer!

I use the below five cards to maximize my rewards which includes one workhorse, three speciality, and one wildcard:
1. US Bank Altitude Reserve for mobile wallet and travel
2. US Bank Cash + for utilities and streaming services
3. Bilt for rent
4. Citi Custom Cash for restaurants
5. Chase Freedom Flex for rotating categories

Why is the Robinhood Gold card not on here? 3% unlimited cash back on all items, 5% on travel? Its extremely good.

I grabbed the CSP for another 60k welcome offer and 300 dollar credit for the first year. I had the CSR but down graded to Freedom Unlimited so I could grab another Welcome offer for the CSP.

When traveling internationally do you use mostly credit cards to get points and rewards or use debit cards to maximize savings?

Hey Spencer! Active watcher of the channel, thanks for all you do and congrats on 25K! I just got approved for the amex gold card - my first amex lol I'm a bit confused because my app says "no present spending limit". Any advice on the best ways to navigate this and what's the best approach? I have some big payments coming up and want to make sure they let me charge them to the card.

I’m really new to the credit card game. I bank with Chase and I’m looking to get the Chase trifecta cards. This was a really helpful video. Thanks! Side note: I just joined your page as a new sub and am looking forward to future content

Great video, like the idea of breaking down cards by type. I realized I don't have a good cleanup card. As the Bilt card gives me 1x and TPG values Bilt points at 2.05x I could technically use it but a 1.5x Chase card would be worth more technically. I could easily get 2.5% back with the Smartly card. Not sure which road to go down. Once I'm under 5/24 I will get the Sapphire Reserved and then upgrade it to the Sapphire Preferred for the Power Card. And then I will use SUBs for the Wildcard spot.

I only use 3 credit cards;
Citi Strata Premier=groceries and restaurants.
Citi Custom Cash=dedicated gas card.
Citi Double Cash=my catch-all cards.

This simple setup allows me to be either team travel or team cashback, whatever the flavor of the month is.
