The team travelled to the beautiful island of Anglesey, located at the northernmost tip of Wales, where Huw Lewis runs a sheep farm. In the evenings, Huw often spends time searching the internet for art bargains. One night, while browsing eBay, he stumbled upon a small, unattributed oil sketch depicting Jesus and the apostles at the Last Supper. He immediately felt that it was something special and was surprised when no one else placed a bid against him. He secured the artwork for just £50.

The most gut wrenching aspect of this story is... if Huw hadn't purchased it on eBay... it would have probably been lost forever.

That Ben West sketch is phenomenal, the moment I saw it i thought that even if its not authentically by some famous artist, it still an incredible piece of work. Now I need to make my way to Detroit some day and see the finished painting in person.

How wonderful that this sketch-painting has been saved from oblivion!

I love the sketch that Huw found much more than the finished painting, he is a master draughtsman.

Cudos to the camera people who filmed this - some wonderful angles and great use of depth of field, it's a pleasure to watch.

The camera work, lightning, sound and color grading is on a very high level. Kudos to camera men Louis Caulfield, Will Edwards, Justin Evans, John Bujak. Drone operator Jack Coathupe and Camera assistans Ian and Pedro. Kudos to sound and all post editing. Incredible work. Kind regards from a viewer in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Glad they showed and mentioned the Detroit Institute of Art. Probably the most underrated Art museum in the world. The Toledo Museum of Art down the road also contains highly significant examples in the art history world.

I knew the moment I saw it. I grew up with this painting at the DIA. It's one of our greatest masterpieces. I've gone back and seen it a couple times a year for decades.

It seems the Artists ( paint ) have relentlessly created so many masterpieces which are yet to be discovered!! So much talent and so much to say only to find these again in some garage to be re-discovered again!!

Oooh! This inspires me to search and look for my own paintings on eBay and such. For 50 quid I’d keep that beauty, without the provenance search and the restoration. Love the ornate, antique frame. The painting itself looks old and distinguished, with the crackalure. As Philip has said, that is one of the more difficult characteristics to forge or fake. I especially love the bold stenciling defining the face and bodies of the apostles on the right.
