Totally agree! I use Sudowrite for my prose, GPT4 for outlining and brainstorming, and Claude for developmental/structural edits for existing prose.

I’ve been trying to balance novel writing for years alongside my full time corporate tech career, grad school, being a father and sole income provider for my family, etc, etc. I love the journey, but I’ve never finished a book because real life always comes first.
Now, though… being an engineer and technologist by profession, and having become a savvy prompt engineer, I actually believe these tools can help me succeed in completing many of the stories I’ve been working on over the years.

Great List. I switched from chatgpt to Claude behause of your recommendation.
Thanks for giving novelai a second Chance.
I had the same problems like you.
But in its current state with the new module kayra, the lorebook and the instructions it does what you want almost all the time.
On top of that it has zero restrictions and gives you absolute freedom.

Hello again. First I have to thank you for several wonderful and not least educational videos.
But I have a little tip. A bit of the problem when Claude has to write 1000 words from an outline is that you end up with around 300-500 words.
My tip (which works for me) is to ask Claude to write 200 from each Story beat.
Here is a prompt that works well. You get about 3, 000 words per chapter.
The first thing you have to do is Collect EVERYTHING in a document (Story Bible)
There you pack Synopsis, outline, characters and not least detailed story beats.
You will then receive a storybible of approximately: 3000-4000 words.
Load it into Claude 2. Then use this prompt:
***

Prompt:
As a world-renowned author of best-selling novels, famous for your astonishing storytelling technique,
I have a job for you.
You must write 200 words from chapter 1 storybeat 1. etc...
Genre:
Prose style:
Stick to the outline.
***
I ended up with a small novel of about 75, 000 words. 🙂

Thank you for this excellent overview of these tools. As a retired teacher, I must compliment you on your clear and precise teaching modality. I've been following all of your videos.

One of my personal favourites is Subtxt. The learning curve is a bit steep. But basically, you can use it before you start outlining, either before brainstorming or instead of brainstorming. The idea is that every story is like the problem-solving pattern of the human mind.

I use GPT4 to help with outlining and brainstorming and Sudowrite to help with prose . I have to say I find Sudowrite's prose a little flowery for my taste. but I haven't tried the style function yet since I wasn't aware of it. I also use Chat GPT to critique my work so I can tighten it up. I find that GPT is excellent at critiquing and suggesting areas for improvement. If I feed in a single chapter in chunks GPT can usually remember it well enough to write a decent critique.

Thanks for this. I must admit I found the “Fractal Outlining” topic, listed on your Claude page, most interesting and intriguing. Could one expect a video on that topic anytime soon?

I now understand the writer's strike. 😄

I find Claude2 kicks the crap out of GPT-4 when it comes to prose and creative writing. There's ways too to get around Claude's prudishness haha.

Crazy how fast this world is changing and evolving with the use of AI tools! I came across my notes that bookmarked this video from close to a year ago. This secret sauce, as we both know, is the writer/dreamer/creator. So far, I am not convinced that AI will replace the human spirit in this. Live Long and Prosper, Jason!

Thanks for a great video (as usual) Claude works perfectly, also in Norway now :-)

Here are the other things you missed regarding open AI's playground.

Playground is less likely to lose context because it has hard token limits. So you can be assured that it never loses context from your instructions.

Also, for sexy romance writers, you don't get the community guidelines restriction. So, for a certain type of writing and translating, it stands above everything else.

Though, I'm still looking for the AI that will speed up my writing process. I'm starting to doubt that it's possible.

I'm really liking Claude. It's prose out of the box is so good. Better than I can write or will probably ever have the time to learn to write. With enough input and ideas that come from AI, I feel the final product is mine, because I would have been intimately part of the process.

In the Generative AI space, Playground was also first (before MidJourney and now its variants) to bring prompt based art to life. The credits system can be a bit confusing, but I would go with either MidJourney or other apps that go with monthly payment plans.

I like Chat GPT and would kill to use it, but the 18+ censor makes it unusable for me.

ChatGPT is absolute garbage! It never listens to commands, it wants everything to be climactic, it's wordy and redundant. Absolutely terrible!

Genuine question, are you not worried that these tools will flood the market with generic novels which will kill your (and many others) writing career?
