Paddling the Yukon River | Adventure, old cabins and history!

Join us, on part 1 of our Yukon River adventure! A friend and I traveled down the Yukon River in July and our goal was to not only have our own adventure but explore the history along the way. Of which there is TONS! There are sunken ships, sunken dredges, tragedies on the river, and many stories about the cost of trying to make to Dawson down the Yukon River.

We really thought a lot about those folks who traveled this same route over 100 years ago rushing to Dawson City for the Klondike Gold Rush. Those people are the true adventurers!

In this series I'll focus partly on our trip but also give background on the places we saw and stayed at and share interesting stories from the gold rush.

Wow, you are hardy Cdn women! That was a tough slog thru the lake, even with the transport shuttle. Thoroughly enjoyed the history parts and cabins, I'm a fellow history buff :)

I LOVE all the old cabins and I'm a history nut too! We have an area here in Maine that is one of my favorite places and not a lot of buildings were preserved but in the woods you can find old artifacts. We found one at a pond and I can't wait to go back and search for more.

In the 1960’s there was a museum in one of the old settlements along the Yukon. One of the rooms was full of old wind up phonographs left behind by the prospectors. It is long gone and I am certain that the settlement is abandoned. I think only one family lived there even then.

Wow, what a fantastic trip, I just love history and the travels of modern vs days gone by..I see they are almost the same! I live near the the gold rush of 49 here in Northern California and have done some exploring of my own but nothing quite as fantastic as yours! Thanks for the episode!

I am always amazed at the cabins you find. Seems like the roof is either in decent shape or all dilapidated and caved in. Great trip and video! How tipsy are the Yaks when loaded up like that? Can't wait for more of the trip! Stay safe.

The phonograph is a Berliner Gramophone. Those are Berliner records as well.
