Ahh, stock buybacks. Way to inflate stock prices without doing anything meaningful.

The solution to poor Mac sales is simple. Simply put a 512 Gb SSD into every M2 Mac base model. This would only add around $50 to the component cost of each of these models.

People are well enough informed to realise that the performance of any 256 Gb M2 Mac is very low because it only has a single 256 Gb flash module. With the 256 Gb M1 Mac there were two 128 Gb flash modules which means that the base M1 Mac is faster than the base M2 Mac.

It would also help increase sales if these M2 Macs also came with 16 Gb of RAM as standard.

A major selling point of old Intel Macs was the ability to upgrade the SSDs and RAM in these systems. Apple has deliberately made all M1/M2 Macs completely none upgradable.
