The B7 is produced in the same assembly line in Dingolfing, Germany, in addition to BMW's own 7 Series. BMW permitted Alpina to create a high-performance version of that flagship 7 Series, they did not need it to be a high-revving, BMW M version (which will have been referred to as a "BMW M7" in the current nomenclature). It has recently been suggested that there was no marketplace for an M7 that will have featured the BMW M's trademark high-rev engine and twin-clutch automated manual transmission, and quite a few customers who desired a performance option inside 7 Series would've gone to the V12-engined BMW 760Li. Competitors range from the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG and Audi S8.
