Hats off to whoever invented the torque converter! Great breakdown of some fairly complex concepts Lou!

I have a bt200x mini bike, and I just swapped it with a 224cc max performance predator engine. I have to find the right size torque converter for it than I can ride it a more than double the speed. This video kind of clarified what type of gearing I need so thank you! 👍

I had a Lil Indian when I was a teenager. My friend had an orange early 70s, Sears mini bike. We used to duct tape one of those big ole' square flash lights on our front fenders and cruise around the neighborhoods at night. Neighbors probably thought, who the heck is mowing their lawn at this hour? 😂😂

I’m trying to get my son’s 100cc minibike to climb hills and trail ride better. Thank you so much for posting this video.

i just put a 60t rear sprocket on mine and with the stock 98cc motor, it has almost zero torque but it was the best thing ever because i can easily keep up with traffic on the road

Needing a running start to do the speed test @ 2;45 reminded me of the Isle of Mann races & particularly back
when the bikes were 2 strokes but needed to be pushed to get it rolling but then they went like a bat outta hell
w/ a high revving engine. I'm not quite sure how that relates to this but them pushing the bikes to get going
is what caught my attention. Anyhoo, I'm watching to learn peace

for those that are confused by this video the colemans in all stock form
have a gear ratio of 10 to 1 thats a pretty good all around gear ratio
its good for startin off on a hill but it doesnt offer much in the way of speed
the governor in my bike is defective so i get a top speed of 25 M.P.H. on flat ground others report like 13 mph. with a properly working governor
the way i determined the 10/1 gear ratio is is by turning the clutch untill the rear tire made one full revolution
i ride my bike on dirt roads an honestly i rarely hold full throttle for more than a few seconds because of the ever changing road conditions
it literally goes from hard pack scattered with loose rock to mostly hard packed white with random loose spots to a creek crossing then hard packed red clay with ruts then a long moderately steep grade that being said 10/1 gearing is an excellent choice for that

@5:00 mark I see the belt is on backwards, and, the clip on the master link is also on backwards.

Bridgeport milling machines use the same concept to control spindle speed, cool idea

Seems like the 2 speed centrifugal jackshaft was the best of both worlds. Too bad they can't make one of those where the first gear is a torque converter, with a solid lockout overdrive.

Good info! The torque converter is king for obvious reasons. I actually have a ct200u, and just installed a torque converter with the 5 to 1 gearing and 19 inch tire. Take a look at the yellow Secondary spring, it helps greatly to keep the rpms up. And also a true comet belt seems to be the ticket! The cheap ones flex too much and don't achieve full shift out.

soo... basically get a torque converter XD

awesome and really helpful video!

This makes more sense than changing engines, carbs, exhaust, heads, valve springs and on and on. 40 mph, good take off and being able to climb a hill on a minii bike is enough for me. If I was gonna spend all that extra cash to get 60+ mph I'd just get a honda

Well done straight forward video brother.

I would love to know where he bought that jackshaft with the aluminum back plate, if anyone knows.
