Remember, when anaesthetising, you need to pull up the plunger first to make sure you're not in any vasculature. You shouldn't be able to draw up blood from the surrounding tissues. THEN, and only then, should you continue to deliver the local anaesthetic.

I had a lumbar puncture. About 8 or 9 years ago. And I must say. That I felt nothing at all. I was busy talking to a nurse about a picture of myself and my daughter. And before I knew it. My lumbar puncture was all done.

Had one done yesterday and my god it hurt like HELL and is still hurting reading all these comments saying they didn’t feel it I’m definitely jealous they had to move the needle as well because they couldn’t find the fluid

The slight movements of the spinal needle, the bouncing, how is that not threatening the spinal cord or the chance of the needle breaking?

4 ml is usually not sufficient for the number of tests needed to run.
Especially when being tested for autoimmune or viral encephalitis or other inflammatory causes.
And it’s a good thing if every drop is preserved and collected
We end up collecting 12-16 ml

I had lumbar puncture a week ago. It was 5 tries before they hit it. The other 4 times they hit the bone before they got inbetween.

It did not hurt at all! No anesthetic and it didn't hurt, just uncomfortable, extremely small needle!

But, I was bedridden for 4 days because of intense pain, since they missed so often. But the procedure doesn't hurt at all.

I was in a sitting position
