Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea,” the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel, is coming to theaters nationwide in a special engagement May 31, 2024.

Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England. “Young Woman and the Sea,” which also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler, is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.

I miss Disney making inspirational sport movies like this, this is the type of movies that they need to make more instead of lazy remakes and franchises. It's also nice to see Daisy Ridley getting more opportunities in different movies, she can be great in a movie when she's given the right material to work with

My 22 year-old daughter is preparing to swim the English Channel. She wants to complete the Triple Crown (The English Channel, Catalina Channel and the circumnavigation of Manhattan Island) of swimming.

She is far-beyond driven and no doubt will accomplish this amazing feat!

Remember when Disney used to make inspiring feel good sport movies like Remember The Titans, The Mighty Duck, The Rookie, Miracle, Cold Runnings, Invincble, McFarland USA, Million Dollar Arm, etc? Yeah, i remember them and i wished they make feel good sport movies like that so with this, it's a breath of fresh air in the middle of what they are doing these days

Even though the film will only be available in select theaters, It’s good to see that this film is getting a theatrical release instead of having it be relegated on Disney+.

Personally I think more original Live-Action films should get Theatrical releases instead of just having them be relegated to just the Live-Action remakes or IP sequels.
