This is just me ranting, it has little to do with this story. But this nuanced standard for love pisses me off. “Follow your heart”, “love has no barriers”, etc. It’s gross. Of course divorces are great for people in abusive relationships, but they’re also pretty goddamn handy for volatile men who switch their women like underwear. Its a sacred vow. I hate how little importance a lifelong promise has nowadays. I hate how men and women are willing to screw over the people close to them in pursuit of their own happiness. It’s terribly selfish.

At first I thought maybe they were splitting because he was worried his recovery would get in the way of their relationship... but then he decided to date Olivia Munn right after asking for the divorce and this just doesn’t sound good :(

Everyone is either saying that "This clearly shows she was enabling him she's the bad guy!!" or "He must have been cheating on her with Olivia Munn he's the bad guy". Given how much he talked about his relationship with his wife in his shows it's only natural for people to be curious, but we don't really know what happened. It's unfair to speculate. The only thing we know for sure is that they both must be going through a difficult time right now.

I remember watching the director of Marriage Story explaining what his message was for it. He explained it as a thing where both people love each other, but they just don’t belong together, and I think it’s a better point of view than bitterness.
