Sonic The Hedgehog 2 cheat for Mega Drive/Genesis - Level Select (with save state for emulators)

This is how to enable the level select cheat for Sonic The Hedgehog 2 for Mega Drive/Genesis.

Here is the link to the save state:

This was saved using Kega Fusion and is in GSX format, I believe this will also open in Gens and probably some other Mega Drive emulators. You may need the exact ROM for this to work.

FYI, the cheat code 19, 65, 9, 17 is a reference to former Sonic Team Head Yuji Naka's birthday-- September 17, 1965!

There's actually some cheats you can activate with the sound test ONLY in thelevel select: 01 09 09 02 01 01 02 04 (make sure to type this without the zeros) and 04 01 02 06 (without zeros again) for all the emeralds, have fun!

I know its old but just git this game for my kid and you explained it in a way I did not have to press extra buttons and I got it in my 1st attempt. Thx.

It was strange try to work out how to do this on the Wii Virtual Console emulator but I eventually managed to do it because I think converting Wii Classic Controller Pro/GameCube/SNES (Special Virtual Console/SNES Classic Mini Controller to Wii Apdapter) controls to Mega Drive controls then A is actually C and B is A.

I did everything right. I even get the ring sound but even if I do A + START, normal game launch. I'm playing the original Sega Genesis version and I'm sure it's the A button which is binded to A button. I tried many emulators and roms, still same issue.

A+start doesn't work as a combination on some retrobit gamepads. The only fix is to remap A or Start to another button, and try it on pc

Also if you are playing on sonic games instead of the Genesis/ Mega Drive it's hold Y and start not hold A and start
