I'm from TN and I live in Seoul. I'm an English teacher there. It's true that there's racism in Korea. I have an African colleague and I've also seen my kindergarten kids asking me why is she black, why am I brown and all such questions. But I'm positive that they're so curious to actually know people's different colors and not in a negative way. I teach them about this immediately like how different geographic regions around the world and also how the genes are responsible for a person's color and it's absoultely fine and should be acceptable with any colored people. It's so shocking to see that among all the other teachers at my school, they love me the most and even treat me as their best friend - one of them even confessed that he loves me more than his mom. So from their perspective, they obviously see and choose a heart of a person and not their color. This is where we adults should take care in what we speak and interact with them. I'm impressed that they could understand this according to their level but it's the duty of the parents and teachers to teach them properly to avoid future conflictions. Personally, I've never experienced racism there. Most of the people are so kind and generous and they actually love Indians - our culture and food. They're so curious to know about our different cultural behaviors, climatic changes, language, etc. To be honest, many people have even truly complimented about my look and face, especially they say that my eyes are beautiful which I mostly haven't heard from Indians - may be because Koreans love bright and bigger eyes, we have double eyelids but they don't. My Korean colleagues and many of my Korean church mates love the fact that I'm an Indian and love Indian stuff. They all support me as much as they can and I'm very glad and grateful about it. Also about the make up thing, its damn true that even some Koreans expect their own people to look good. One of my colleagues shared her story about her previous job where her manager lady insisted her to wear make up because she thinks that without make up, people wouldn't be pleased to see them. I personally don't wear make up for myself but still haven't asked by any Koreans about it. They simply like the natural look on Indians (don't know about others though). So, I think the future generations would come to know better and treat people better. Let's hope for the best!!

I had a colleague from Delhi years back, N. Setpal with a Filipina wife, he used to mock at dark-skinned people. I asked him why, he said he feels disgusting to see that color. So, we cannot blame a country, it's individual issue and unfortunately, India has few people such people and Korea has more.
