Low porosity hair here and anything with coconut in it turns my hair to straw. Even if the hair was moisturized and not dehydrated.

I just did the porosity test and its low. No wonder the coconut oil is no longer working. Thanks for explaining

A few things that actually helped to control my hairfall include: (1) I discontinued wearing ponytails because it causes tension breakage. (2) I started massaging my scalp twice a week with liitleextra cocoonnion hair oil while leaning forward & holding my head inverted to allow blood flow to the scalp. (3) Protecting my head while moving out to protect my hair from dust and pollution. (4) Using soft shampoo again from liittleextra only to wash my hair.

I have low porosity hair and this doesn’t quite make sense to me because it’s very difficult to hydrate low porosity hair. It’s not healthy automatically. It takes a lot of work and trial and error to get into those shafts so it stays hydrated.

A slight correction imo, but coconut oil is a penetrating oil. It can be used for low porosity hair (the fractionated kind so it isn't very heavy, has smaller molecules which penetrate easily) along with a heat cap to aid it in penetrating hair. After you've moisturized your hair, you can then seal it with a 'sealing' oil.

low porosity hair will not absorb thick oils like coconut oil. also frizz is normal. my curls are healthy, i have zero split ends or breakage and my hair natuarlly has some frizz. especially in humid weather

I'm from PH, and I make my own virgin coconut oil from coconut milk that was fermented for 2 days.

From what I observed, my hair doesn't absorb the 'virgin coconut oil' but easily absorbs the 'cooked coconut oil' even though I never applied it hot or warm, just room temp.

I guess heat changed something.

And I'm low porosity btw.

Ok so that's true that my hair takes many hours to Air dry but my hair doesn't get oily very often, only after 5 days without washing it gets oily and I just tested my hair and it didn't go middle or bottom it stayed floating on the surface of water so I am ready confused whether my hair is actually low porosity or not 😅

Oh so that's why when I apply coconut oil at night it seems greasy then gets well absorbed by morning making my hair smoother?

My hair is wavy/curly (it got sometimes different hair patterns), medium thick, dry ends and dry itchy scalp, very frizzy and easily get breakage. I think it takes one or two hours to air dry. I can't figure my hair porosity.

High porosity, the soft silky ideal that’s advertised is damaged hair and low porosity is the natural state of healthy hair

Water based products with humectants .. example? Which product pls😢

if occlusive agent doesn't suit well for low porosity hair, then i should choose humectant agent that hydrate my hair or emollient agent in hair-care products. Perhaps, occlusive agent has ability to lock the moisture in my hair, but it's hard to absorb for low porosity hair because occlusive agent has a thick texture. I just think my hair is same like my skin in face. In the first step i should go to humectant or water-based product, the next step is emollient or anything that fast and easy to absorp for low porosity hair so that my hair is moisturize well and doesn't dehydrate or dry or frizzy hair because lack of moisture. 😆✨

I'm confused. I saw a video showing that you grab a small collection of strands of hair and pull them taught with your finger and thumb at the end. Then, with your other finger and thumb, pinch your hair and run it upwards and see jf your hair clumps up or not.

My hair clumps up, but I think that's more to do with split ends, or coukd it be both, or just my hair type? I have type 1A hair (pin straight). After a shower I can brush my hair and it will dry looking like it is straightened. It also dries pretty fast, as well. I've also done the opposite of that test I mentioned where you pinch and pull downwards to feel the texture of your hair (whether its smooth or rough). Towards the ends, it gets a bit bumpy, but I imagine that's due to split ends etc. Higher up/in general, it's very smooth to the touch. When I roll 1 strand of hair between my thumb and finger, I can either not feel it or have to focus really hard to feel it, meaning I know its 1a hair.

A barber/hairdresser (I'm a guy) once told me i have "abundant" hair. Idk if that's a proper phrase or not. Basically, the hairs themselves are very thin/fine, but, I have a lot of it. Apparently that's called "abundant hair"? Never heard it used elsewhere.

I know I have 1A hair, and I probably have low porosity(?), but still having trouble knowing for absolute sure. I basically want my hair to be a bit stronger, more shiny, and less split ends. Any suggestions for hair like mine? (Also, idk if being a guy makes any difference... idk if biology plays a role in this other than pubic hair😂)
