This portrait is lovely! I also prefer it to the National Portrait Gallery portrait of Anne. Her features appear softer, somehow, and in my humble opinion, more natural. I'm sure it was comforting for Elizabeth I to have such a beautiful portrait of her beloved late mother. Thank you, Claire, for sharing this.

This one is very pretty. The expression is quite innocent and relaxed. Anne's expression in the other one is a little more knowing.

I think that the shape of the face, the eye spacing, the nose and the mouth are very reminiscent of the "Moost Happi" medal, which is the one known contemporary image of Anne Boleyn.

"Yes!" I too think that it is a lovely portrait of Anne Boleyn and whether a true likeness (or not) I'm sure that her

... daughter Queen Elizabeth I 👑 would have been delighted (and heartened) to know that people honoured her late mother in this way. Whether they were only trying to please the Queen (by getting on her good side) didn't matter. All that mattered was that it pleased a Queen who was a daughter who had little memory of her mother. Anne Boleyn being a mother who loved her little girl very much but who never got to see her grow up into the woman (and Queen) she would become.

As always - a lovely 'account' Claire. "Thank you" from Lyndell xx
