I think Haas made a tactical decision. The war situation opened an opportunity for them to drop Maz without much blow back. It sucks for Nikita, but if we're honest he had no business in F1.

Seeing how Kevin is showing us that Haas is capable of earning points, Haas obviously made the right decision.

F1: "Russia cant be represented in F1 this year. Uralkali has to go too.... But
HAAS: "So no more Uralkali money?"
F1: "No, but
HAAS: "oh no! Looks like we can run without their sponsorship"
F1: "Great, but it seems like Mazepin might still be able to dr..."
HAAS: "Get Kevin Magnussen on the phone NOW!"
F1: But Mazepin might still be able to drive!"
HAAS: "No no, its okay, youre doing us a HUGE favour"
F1: ....
HAAS: "We got Kevin!!!!" (background noises of entire team cheering like they just won the constructors and Guenther crying tears of joy saying he doesnt have to climb mountains to get away from the Mazepins anymore)

*HAAS scores more points in the first race than all of last year"

Nikita probably thinks they started the war to get him out

They only signed him for the money. Once the money was gone, they weren’t gonna continue to put up with his toxic attitude and behavior

Dropping him was the right thing to do. Haas would still be pointless with him being in the team. He was TOXIC to the team.

I am pretty sure there was way more to the Nikita Mazepin story than him just being dropped by HAAS. He had a terrible reputation with both fans and his colleagues on track. He groped some poor woman, which really put a huge dent in his brand. His dad pretty much paid big bucks to HAAS for him to be in that seat. That was the sole reason he was there. It wasn't because he was an exceptional talent or anything like that that is for sure. HAAS desperately needed the money or they would have to be put up for sale; especially after the Rich Energy fiasco of a couple of years ago.

I honestly don’t care about the politics of it all but I do know for a fact that he was a danger on the track. Without trying to exaggerate, he’s the worst driver that I’ve seen on the track in a very long time. Glad he’s out.

Something that's usually missed in these pieces is that Nikita is part of a Russian Oligarch's family. This means he is and will be on travel ban lists. It doesn't matter if the FIA said he could race under a neutral flag, he still has the passport of a Russian Oligarch and wouldn't be allowed to enter most of the countries necessary to race an F1 season.
Combine that with the money not being available because of sanctions, and there was no other choice than to drop them both.

Personally, I'm glad he's gone. He was a danger to everyone on the track. He couldn't drive at the same level as Mick and rather than try to get better, he complained that Mick was getting special treatment and that Mick's car was different and that he couldn't understand how Mick could drive the car as well as he does (as seen on DTS). He's a garbage driver with a temper, and he never should've been allowed in F1 in the first place.

To be honest, nobody cares what Mazepin's future will be. Even in Russia.

He couldn't drive to save his life and his constant whining was toxic to the teams morale. The only loss is the Ural Kali money.

if they still kept Mazepin im 100% they wont be having any points at this point

Here's the thing: Even if he was kept on Haas's payroll, he would've become useless. The EU sanctions against him and his father come with restriction of movement. Mazepin would've never gotten a visa to race in Europe, in Canada and the United States. Which means he would be out for the bulk of the calendar. And good luck for him to get that money back. With the sanctions, Haas could successfully argue force majeure.

I dont think mazepin got a bum deal. This time last year he was making insane statements on why he was unable to compete in a race. Going as far as accusing his team of improving his teammates car and not his.
The truth of the matter is NM ran out of talent.
Kevin Mags has shown what the car is capable of when a proven driver with good communication skills works with his race team.

His father is in Putin's inner circle. While I agree he cannot be held responsible for the actions of his government, the freeze they caused on the funds needed to run he car stopped him cold. Nikita did not make friends or fans with his approach to driving. He was a weapon on many tracks. He was out performed by his teammate on too many occasions. The war just gave Haas the means to fill a want. Mazepin put himself in the position.

It was harsh, but it was expected based on circumstances. Mazepin was driving based on the sponsorship he brought. You lose that sponsorship, you lose your ride. It sucks for Mazepin, but that's the way the sport is. Lance Stroll was only on the grid for that reason. Stroll might be considered a strong enough driver now without his dad owning the team, but that certainly wasn't the case in his first couple of years. Both Nikita and Mich would have benefitted from a driver of Magnussen's caliber being their teammate. Rookies need to have that as a benchmark for their own development - only a few drivers are already ahead of the curve from the start of their time in F1 (Hamilton, Vettel, Leclerc, Verstappen for instance). I'm impressed by the measured words of Mazepin though. He's shown a lot of maturity in his situation.

HAAS have gone from being a laughingstock to one of the most loved teams on the grid with the fans

No one talks about the disgrace it is to be the one and only US owned team and not being backed up by any American companies. Where is apple? where is amazon? where is FedEx? Where is Dell? WTF???

It's funny how delusional he is. The only reason he was driving is for the money his Dad gave. If that money dried up, what made him think anyone would keep him on. Maybe he would have a chance if he either wasn't horribly toxic or abjectly terrible last season.

Nikita Mazepin has exactly ZERO value other than the money brought from his father’s sponsorship. That’s not slagging Nikita, that’s simply fact… which has been revealed by the results on track & in the view of team members at Haas F1.

His father essentially bought him an extended ‘track day’ that lasted a year. Be happy, Nikita. You never would’ve had that chance otherwise.
