Number 1 will always have the mighty Ford 300. This engine was used in just about everything industrial generators, (what it was specifically designed for) backhoes, forklifts, farm tractors, Harlan trucks (used to move air planes and luggage around air ports) etc. Had the longest vehicle production run 1965-1996. The first gas million mile engine, they don’t like to die no matter how much they are neglected, and will run on just 1 cylinder. And are still being used in various industrial equipment today. Nothing more reliable out there.

I bought a 1996 Bronco 4 years ago and am glad I did. LOVE IT!

I honestly think that all OBS Ford Trucks would be great to pick up. From the 300 inline 6, to the 460 big block, and both the 7.3L IDI, and Powerstroke, they had some of the greatest engines available. Mix that with their strong, yet simple chassis, and they really are a long lasting, and soon to be collectable truck in my direct opinion.

You didn’t include the older Ford Ranger! They can be had cheaper than $10 k and with the 4.0 they are virtually bulletproof. By the 90’s to early 2000’s the Ranger was one of the best selling small trucks in America.

Love my ‘95 F150, short bed, 4x4. Take that over anything new.

Super thumbs up for the subi baja. Had one in Colorado for 6 years and it was an outstanding vehicle and super fun to drive (with manual transmission). Took it camping many many times and braved many many blizzards thru the mountains with zero issues. Super comfortable for road trips and overall decent fuel econ. Sold it with 130k miles on it and mechanically it was still in excellent shape. Brakes and fluids is all it ever required.

Got super lucky and picked up an 05 F150 for $6500 only 108k on it. Might not seem like much of anything to most folks but it was a blessing!

in 2000 i bought a 90 ford ranger.4.0 with a4ld auto trans for 3k$.is still my daily driver with 200k miles.other than regular maintence, i had to replace leaking intake gaskets, pushrods & rocker arms.very affordable & capable little truck that last a long time with proper maintenence.made back when ford actually cared about quality & reliability.nowdays fords motto should be profit is job 1.

Great video keep it up Case and Tommy ! The full-sized Jeep pick-up trucks from the 70s to 80s were cool . I owned one of these back in the early 90s, strong as a bull and reliable as hell .

I really appreciate the 460 shoutout, many people get so absorbed by the 7.3 and 454 they seem to forget about the 460 which was one of the greatest truck engines of all time.

Ahhhh, Dodge Dakota. Had one for 17 years, such a great truck. And with the 5.2L V8 in it, I was hauling as much as a newer half-ton most of the time haha!

Subaru Brat was a fun little truck to drive. Drove a late 70’s back in 1980 as a company vehicle and it stood up to all the abuse an 18 year old could give it. Had a good 4wd system too.

Tommy, Coming from a Baja owner, Skip the Baja in 2 years, most are dying from the Rust/cancer on the unibody and Sub-frames now with parts drying up. they're just hitting that "Few sold, Fewer survived" mark. Why they were sought after was simple: AWD, 3-5 to 4" bed, and the worse configuration could still get 24 mpg!

Really enjoyed this video. I’m old enough to remember each of these when they were new! For the most part, I understand the appeal of each of these classics. But how about examining the utilitarian value of the old classic truck? In other words, if you can get an appealing classic for $10, 000, and it is also a useful truck, how much more truck can you buy with the same money if you just go for the best one available….that might be a 10 year old F150, or something like that.

We’ll taken care of, the 2nd gen dakotas are amazing trucks! My 02 Durango, based on that truck, has 211k on its 360, and I’d still drive it cross country

Had a first Gen Dakota, '92 model with the 239ci / 3.9L V6 and AX-15 transmission, loved it. Only two issues with them sadly is Rust and lack of parts 😔, dealership support for 1st generation ended in 2010. BTW, replaced mine in 2010 with a 2004 Subaru Baja, still driving it for work around WVU-TECH, at over 413k original miles, but parts are now starting to be discontinued.
