A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach bulges through the diaphragm muscle. Your diaphragm has a small opening (hiatus) that your esophagus goes through before connecting to your stomach. In a hiatal hernia, the stomach pushes up through that opening and into your chest. I used to work for a Chiropractor who would adjust this. He had me give the patients an exercise where you place a heavy sort of book on your belly and practice pushing book up while breathing in. This uses your diaphragm and can help with a hiatial hernia.
