Our ancient ancestors also used to use the branches off of mint leaves to brush their teeth.

I trained in field archaeology. I remember a Medieval skull find where yes, the man had a full set of teeth. But the plaque that covered them was so thick it's a wonder he could close his jaws. Viking Age finds were also varied..on the one hand, ordinary people generally had good teeth, but many warriors filed ridges into their tooth enamal and forced red dye into theh ridges (we guess it looked very fierce in battle) which led to eventual tooth infection through damaged enamel. I also remember the burial of a Roman woman in London, considered old in her early fifties. The possibility that a severe tooth infection had killed her via blood poisoning was considered. On the whole though, yup, our diet leaves a lot to be desired, not just in regards to our teeth but our overall health. The fitness of many of our ancestors would put us to shame.

Actually they used to mainly eat fatty meats like mammoth meat 🍖 the meat would not rot in your mouth it would most likely be swallowed before that happened and sugar is the main reason why we get cavities and this includes all kinds of breads I have done my research 😅
