Everybody on here is missing the point. Banksy did this to prove a point that without the art world hyping up an artist and rich people bidding up the price, people don't know how to recognize art, or think for themselves at all for that matter. Without the bullshit "recognition" that the media and the art world provides in general, people are not able to distinguish good art from bad art. Banksy knew that this would happen, and that was the whole point of this exhibit. This whole facade selling art was an artwork in itself because is completely illuminates that most people don't think for themselves anymore, they value things almost exclusively based on the respect that other people give them; not on their own opinions.

Million of dollars worth of Banksy selling for peanuts. Not even the rats were biting. Surely the true definition of Art.

I am so happy for the people that bought his pieces. They bought his work for the love of the art and for this they were rewarded. I wonder if they managed to talk to any of the people that purchased his art, after finding out who the artist was.

The most valuable piece of art is that $60 dollar sign with Banksy signature. It’s a combination of street performance, art element and social experiment fused into one!!

Perhaps the message here is that his art is not that great... the art world is all about hype, name recognition, and mystique.

He even hugs them cause he knows how humbled they are and how they don't care about the name they care about the art it self.

Youtuber Wreckless Ben did a phenomenal series about this. He tries to sell a bad painting he made as a Bansky and discovers parts of the art world that prove this social experiment to be true: people don’t care about the art, they care about the name brands.

One of the most compelling artists alive today, not because of his art but because of the points he makes through his art. Legend

Its cruel, that some of these people will never have known the true value of what they bought. Banksy is a cynical genius.

I used to deliver food in Manhattan in those days and I saw an original Banksy painted on an apartment door on 34rd Street, probably that's where he used to live that month.

I love how the man selling the art hugs the people not because of the money he made, but because of how the people will be happy to find out when they realize the value of the art they bought.

I wonder if any of the people who bought the paintings saw this and realized what they actually had.
