Georgia has a new president after former Manchester City striker Mikhail Kavelashvili was sworn into office.

But the right-wing, pro-Russian is taking over after a disputed election boycotted by rival candidates which sparked weeks of pro-EU protests followed by hundreds of arrests.

And the outgoing pro-Western president declared herself the "only legitimate" holder of the office.

I am speaking on behalf of more than a million people who stand ruling party. We are tired of being disrespected and labeled as a pro-Russian country or government. It's so easy to apply labels without providing any evidence. There is no Russian interference in my country, and if there were, facts should be presented, but there are none. Our opposition has instilled fear in people by claiming that Russia is behind everything, which is absolutely ridiculous. Have some respect and change your narrative already.

Isn’t it about time the west left other countries alone to govern themselves?

Lots of Americans will be confused by this as they only know about Georgia the state and didn't realise there is a whole country with that name.

In terms of strategic thinking, it is probably wise to kiss the ring.

There was a VOTE, there was a win, like it or not this is what Democracy is. Same goes for Romania. Democracy is not always what we want or like, but it's better than dictatorship where someone tells you what to think, what to do and there are no free choices. Even fi the other idea wins for a time, still while there are free elections it's all good.
