A witness has told the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane, that Princess Masindi Mphephu's mother, Fulufhelo Mphephu, was a 'dzekiso' or candle wife, picked by King Patrick Mphephu Ramabulana before his death in 1988. Takalani Rakgogo, who is Fulufhelo's cousin, says she witnessed a delegation of elders from the Mphephu royal family paying dowry, or lobola, to Fulufhelo's family a few years after the King selected her as a wife for Masindi's father, King Tshimangadzo Mphephu.
