Bigger problem is hiring new people and paying them more than the workers you already have.

Hello Dave, there is one point i don't agree with you and its the "what promotion is about". A worker who seeks a promotion is confident in his performence, which consists of high productivity or gaining new skills in his field. You wouldn't even consider a promotion for a worker who is average or below. That being said, i think a promotion is mainly a "reward" or acknowledgement of progrress and good work ethic. Thats why i disagree with the "must get value out of a promotion".Its greedy to want even more profit from a valuable employee, unless the promotion/raise is high enough to demand additional value.

Nice video !
I suggest that you make a video on how to ask for a employment contract renewal in the presence of multiple generous job offers on the other side !
How to politely ask for a salary raise and leverage the whole situation ...

Thanks a lot

I've been on my job 6 years (nonprofit) and only have received a $1 raise. I love my job, im the best at what I do at my job. I've stared in a few promotional videos to help them raise money. I just want to know am I being unreasonable to want a raise? My employees are all amazing, supervisors show how much they appreciate you and they are genuine. 5 years in, we are just now receiving affordable health care. I could go work at Chik-fil-a and make more money than what I am now. That's not what I want to do. I really need advice.

Work on the volume. Get a mic. It improves the sound quality

why if an employee threatens you, it is better to fire him. or don't give them a raise?

What if we just gave the employee additional tasks but asks that if she takes on these tasks does it come with a raise. How do I respond to that?

Not really realistic. The only way I got a decent raise but threatening of leaving. 2 years past they are happy and understand that I am value and do not regret giving if to me. Sometimes you need to stand up for yourself and not beg and cry.
What you are suggesting is that a person only deserves a raise if they do more for you. This is not right as many people already are underpaid for what they do without taking on more responsibilities.
