Where did mechanical pencils come from? #shorts

If you want to see the elite of mechanical pencils you gotta buy from Japan. I've seen models with shock absorbers so the lead doesn't break. There's one model that turns the lead every time you lift it so the lead stays even. They're suprisingly expensive.

Another good pencil that is used around the world is the graphite holder, similar to the mechanical pencil but uses "lead" just like normal wood pencil. My mom used one as a kid back in the 70s in Brazil

I remember once my economics teacher was asking us who makes our mechanical pencils (as an example for whatever topic we were talking about) and that went down as one of the few times he almost laughed.

I still find it fascinating how the mechanisms of mechanical pens work. Some are very easy with just a latch that has to be pushed to release it. But the most common type with the button at the end which has the rotating piece in it still kinda fascinates me. It's so simple yet so complex

Before the advent of CAD, the mechanical pencil totally changed the drafting game.

What I think makes a good writing instrument is the comfort and weight

If your hand disliked it, throw it away(or give it to someone if it's a particularly expensive one) or get used to it

PLEASE. The first image you showed with the Bic Extra Smooth Dark Writing pencils. Those are by far my favorite pencils, and I have been looking for *YEARS.* If anyone can find a link, or somewhere to buy them, *anything*, I will be so very grateful! Thank you so much for giving me hope that they're still out there!

My grandfather used to use an old mechanical pencil, the mechanism was very simple, the tip was made from 4 spring loaded claws that when you pussed the end of the pencil, they'd open allowing you to slide the lead forwards or backwards, I'd love to find out where he got it as it's beautifully crafted

How I got here is a mix of boredom, being stuck at work with nothing to do, and the ALL MIGHTY ALGORITHM!!!
