ThermalTake TOUGHFAN 12 Review - IS THIS A NOCTUA KILLER?

preview_player
Показать описание
Is the #ThermalTake TOUGHFAN 12 a blatant ripoff of #Noctua’s NF-A12x25 or is it a worthy competitor? Released in early August, 2020 - The ThermalTake TOUGHFAN 12 has nearly identical specs to the NF-A12x25 but is cheaper to buy. Join Jon and Rich as they compare these two fans together to see if ThermalTake has truly bested the brown and beige king, or if it's just another imposter.

Looks like Thermaltake has some friends at the Noctua factory in Taiwan...

Feel like this review is slightly bias. The performance difference is very small, the price difference is enough to notice. There is no noise normalized testing, or even rpm testing ( not as useful but still). I disagree with the end saying that Noctua is a better deal because of an included gasket. For a single fan noctua might still make sense. But for a new build with 6+ fans ( rad push pull) the thermal take would not make this a better deal.

So the performance is only very slightly worse, while the noise is very slightly better? If you noise normalize, that would mean they are probably on par for the Noctua at a significantly lower price: I would say that's a Noctua killer.

Do you have noise normalized airflow results? The tt fan may actually beat out the noctua, since most aren't running full speed anyways.

What was actual RPM on both fans? For sure TT has a little less rpm and that's why it is quieter and move less air. This is spherical horse in vacuum test. Also you can buy 2 -pack Tt for the 35 $ almost the price of 1 Noctua.

so what? the noctua looks like a modified gt typhoon which was the previous king

Hmmm... 2 differing thoughts. While Noctua does have the material that prevents the plastic's expansion, the warranty, and the proven performance, you have to realize that TT doesn't have to beat Noctua per se. The TT fan is quieter, close to the performance of Noctua, is black and is $10 cheaper. We all know that fans take years to fail, unless you get a defective one. And also, you'd hardly see people keep their old fans when they sell it because it's time to upgrade. A lot of people won't see the warranty as worth $10 more.

Interesting and awesome vid as always guys 😉

Very close, got to say if I was buying 5-6 fans the cheaper choice at nearly identical performace point would be my choice

But isn't the noctua a rip off of the scythe/nidec gentle typhoon?
Also the Arctic p12 makes more sense perf/value wise

Nice. Here's some additional measurements I care about:
- minimum RPM
- noise normalized testing
- hub/motor/bearing noise
- recording of the fan noise at half and full speed (some fans sound far more annoying than others)

Got two brand new ThermalTake ToughFan 12 Turbos for $33 total. One from NewEgg at $14 and the other from Amazon at $19.

What's with the prostate examination gloves?

These are good cheap fans with performance similar to Noctua. I should buy three of them and daisy-chain to one of my Motherboard Fan!?

The "Half speed" test is a worthless methodology LOL...

Where’s the static pressure comparison, I feel like that’s a more important than stat to review rather than what’s in the box :/

2 years later and the NF-A12x25 is $60 (70 for the chromax) AUD with a 22% discount, whilst the toughfan is $69.95 for 2 with no discount, so i guess it just a matter of which region you live in as to wether or not its a noctua killer

Update. Right now the new black Noctua 140mm 3000 RPM PWN is $27.95, The Thermaltake 140mm 2000 RPM PWN is $29.99.
