Sem'yanin is a Soviet Russian animated sitcom. The series centers around the Griffins, a dysfunctional family who has ties with the Soviet communist party.
It ran for only one season with three episodes from January 31, 1990 to February 21, 1990. This was because the series wasn't popular due to its pro-government propagandist tone combined with the growing unrest in the Soviet Union. In addition, the animation for the show spent high amounts of time, effort, and money, leading to the bankruptcy of its animation studio.
However, roughly three decades later, a subculture of the series formed and the series became popular, mainly among 'Generation X' in Russia who have nostalgia for Soviet television. The subculture praises the series due to its unique animation and relatable characters.
