Nice, that's exactly how I teach trig basics to my 9th graders - and also 11th graders who did miss some lessons in 9th grade because of you know what. Always start with a triangle! I fancy the enquiry-based approach of maths teaching and I think you grasp it very well.

I'm sure beginners would ask: but where did you get the triangle with angles pi/4 from? This is a basic trig question to many, but would be helpful to be complete in your explanation
