Revit Family: Line-Based Linear Light

In this video, I will cover how to use a linear light family. As always, you can find a link to my website to download the Revit family below. The family is line-based and face-based which means you can draw any line on any coplanar face to create the linear light. There is a built-in extension to the families instance parameters allowing you to show the light fixture with any extension on either side. With a void built into the family, you can cut any surface you place the light on to get a clean look. Finally, there are corners built into the family allowing you to change the angle of the corner condition to get a clean-looking corner when this family wraps.

Hi, thanks for making the Revit family. I do have a question. Whenever I load the family into a project, it does not show the fixture track in the family. it only shows the void and when I cut walls with the family. do you know how I could fix this problem? thanks.

Is this family intended to be a light source? It's not casting light in my model but the photometrics parameters seem to indicate that it should be...

Very nice clip. That family you created was great. I noticed that the back side of the light protruded through the back of the wall. Is there anyway to have that clean up on the backside of the wall? Thanks again for the knowledge.
