The introduction to a Strong Medicine video series on underappreciated and undertaught diseases - those diseases which are often not taught in school, and which medical, PA, and nursing students can arrive on the wards having never heard of before.

The first underappreciated disease, PRES, will be posted tomorrow (Jan 3). Complex regional pain syndrome, cyclic vomiting syndrome, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), endometriosis, and HLH will all be posted over the course of the month - interspersed with other videos. Future diseases TBA.

Huge respect to you for admitting that some diagnoses were missed because of lack of knowledge early in your career. As an aspiring hospitalist, I am very thankful for your videos and wish to always be a continuous learner so that we can always be better physicians and healers.

Awesome. I’ve always wanted a “Zebras over horses” type series, and this is perfect

I have Behcets and almost none of my doctors knew about it before meeting me. It’s led to a lot of doctors dismissing what I shared, so I’m really excited for this series! It’s not going to cover every disease, but it shows the importance of believing patients even when their symptoms don’t immediately make sense.

Great idea! I would also suggest hidradenitis suppurativa for round 2. More common than you think, straddles organ systems/specialties as you mentioned. I’m excited for this!

A bit out of date is the nice way of saying it. They shoulda incorporated more pathology in first year med school. and change to a 1.5 + 2.5 curriculum. Too bad most med schools are more worried about sucking. tuition dollars than actually teaching high quality material. Great channel

My personal story of being CVSer. Thanks for this. It is truly an orphan disorder. Thank you for this. Adult CVSers, in my opinion, have it hard. I used to go to the ER every two weeks... I still get sick, but at the rate that I was going, suffering from multiple sepsis episodes, I would have ended up dead. I would love to help in anyway so that you get the first hand account. I believe it is necessary for medical students to have access to patient’s view so that they learn compassion and empathy .In other words, humanizing their patients, especially patients that have misunderstood and rare disorders. Our narrative is necessary because we are the true experts, professional patients even. Again, nice work but not in total agreement with all that you shared.
