Sinus headaches and chronic sinusitis are very common complaints of patients presenting to an ENT office. However, many patients with such complaints end up having a problem completely unrelated to the sinuses. Indeed, not all facial pain is a sinus issue. Here are 16 different causes of facial pain from the common to the rare neurologic headaches along with the "typical" pain distributions and general treatment strategies for each. Keep in mind that the pain distributions are generalized and that the individual patient may have a pain distribution that may vary from the idealized textbook image.

Still doesn’t describe my pain… been searching for years. It can be on both sides of my face. One point can throb while another spot can simultaneously burn. It can be around the outer eye socket, chin/lower teeth area goin up to under my eyes. Other times large parts of my face go numb….
I get intense pain from a chiari malformation when I strain, but this is different. Drs have chalked this up to migraines after 10 years of searching, but that’s just not right and I know it smh. Even saw 2 specialists in Houston, TX, but I came up empty handed and so severely depressed. Maybe one day I’ll find out what it is….
