The battery seems great! ..useful venture and thank you for your efforts. Those of us who live in the North, know the experience of a Lithium battery-powered device that does not function when it is -20 degrees Celsius (-4 Fahrenheit). Drills were the tool that worked least often I thought, till I learned the majority of devices implemented the same Lithium cell-type. Seemingly simplistic groupings of cylindrical batteries, decorated with fancy plastic that "..work only in California", I used to say on the job (a paperweight till reaching zero C or 32 F).

I would have liked to hear more about LFP with QS anode. I don't think I'm the only one. Also can QS do a Na metal anode similarly to Li? Specific energy might not match Li but it could sure be cheap.

Thanks Tim for what this will means for the future of us all. Amazing effort and so excited to watch your progress over the next few years. Please keep sharing :)

Very informative video, thank you for posting this online.

It looks like the anode space has to grow and shrink physically. How do we manage that in the design?

I'm curious to know if the temp tests were done using dedicated experimental for hot & dedicated experimental for cold.
iow, a real world test. Why? bc we need to check hot->cold->hot-cold etc. in order to emulate real world annual changes which can cause degradation of material over time.

Fantastic presentation and good discussion of QS leading battery tech. Is there a timeframe for testing 20 and 40 layers?

Lithium Free Lithium Metal Anode. This seems to imply less lithium is needed than conventional lithium-ion. Is that correct?

Tim sounds technically competent,
believable, and well spoken. I hope QS succeed in commercializing the solid battery for the environment and future of human kind.

The part about 10 layer cells and how they need increased capacity is very confusing, why is it necessary to increase the capacity 10 times just to make 10 layer cells? some one please explain if you manage to understand.

THANK YOU for keeping audio volume in bounds. I keep giving thumb-downs for that.

I find it really interesting that QuantumScape is chasing multilayer cell design while they could really blow the lid on pack design by not doing that. The narrative about cell sizes is really misleading. Application and pack engineers should spend much more time with the chemists.

Solid Power recently released full performance data on their sulfide-based solid-state battery and it's pretty much on par with QS. Would be interesting if you could interview their CEO Doug Campbell to expand on the data.

Does anyone else think this is just another over hyped battery start up that won't be able to commercialize anything or is it just me? This has happened over and over again with secretive battery start ups that claim a lot and never meet claims when it's not in a lab setting. What happened to the all electron battery?

A key factor, and often looked over, but absolutely important issue that you missed is weight, batteries have so much weight. In a lorry Americans say trucks diesel is king, weight restrictions on roads in Europe is 32 tonnes batteries will hinder how much you can transport per trip. So batteries are not a viable alternative to traditional engine's in the transport sector.

Greta development prospects but couldn't you speed up you development process to reach commerciality earlier?

Not clear how this ambition is differentiated from the 30yr-old fantasy and quest for metal Li anode w solid state ("ceramic") electrolyte. Went from revisiting the dream to same old microengineering. To be convincing, cite something structurally novel in public pat applns.

I saw a video on a potato battery. Has anyone ever studied it for EV? Potatoe
