Germany Doesn’t Want To Give Up Chinese Money

While Europe writ large is waking up to the threat of the Chinese Communist Party, Germany seems to be moving in the other direction. At least its new Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, is. He's gone against members of Parliament, federal agencies, and European allies in maintaining close economic ties to China. In this episode of China Uncensored, we discuss a deal he pushed through allowing a Chinese shipping company to own a share of Germany's largest port, Angela Merkel's relationship with China when she was chancellor, and why Germany could be in trouble if it doesn't give up (or at least decrease dependence on) Chinese money.

Olaf Scholz might be our newest most bought chancellor we ever had. He had his hands deep in a banking scandal and can not remember a thing. How fitting.
That he, despite everyone voting against it, smashed this deal through was kinda predictable.

I am a german and quit my job and moved out of the country after I witnessed the sellout myself.
I was working for a company building machines which are sold all over the world.
For enough money we not only sold our machines to China, but we gave them our sourcecode.
I dont know the current situation in that company, but I dont think China buys any more machines from them, they build them themselves.

I'm not German, but my wife grew up in Germany and we have family there. We lived there for several years in the 1970's and 1980's and we go there every couple of years to visit. The differences in the population and condition of everything you can see has changed dramatically over the past several decades, and I'm afraid not for the better. There's a lot to love and admire about Germany and the culture, but their ability to shoot themselves in the foot politically and economically can't be overstated.
