My team and I were assigned a social media campaign project in which the centerpiece of the campaign is a short film. We had to develop a smc around an issue that is important to ALL of us. We decided on the campaign: #LikeAGirl

#LikeAGirl was first established by ALWAYS to acknowledge the struggles and criticisms young girls face as they encounter puberty and are expected to act a certain way due to norms and rules set by society. A video of its campaign was released during the Superbowl 48 in 2015 which then sparked a huge controversy. It has been 3 years since it was released and we are here to bring #LikeAGirl back to our school and community.

We’re here to support and empower girls when their confidence is at the lowest. “Like a girl” is a statement that has been around for a while now and it’s frequently used in derogatory ways and our goal is to inspire people to change the meaning of it, as it’s a powerful statement that should be said as a positive thing instead of an insult. We want our viewers to know that regardless of gender and age, you can do whatever you desire to as long as you put your mind to it.
