I remember hearing that piranhas are especially ravenous during the dry season when there’s little food available. During the wet season when the forest is flooded, they’re free to forage and scavenge on whatever’s available

And yes they are in fact very timid, and usually the only time they act vicious is to protect their nesting grounds from intruders

I actually had a handful of piranhas in an aquarium when I was stationed in South Korea. They were actually more scared of me than I thought they would be. Tried to see if they would bite my hand a few times and they cowered in the corner. Even with a few drops of blood.

I saw a video where piranhas absolutely atomized a rat. THEY ATOMIZED IT TO THE POINT IT BECAME INVINSIBLE they did it in 5 seconds or less too and they were confused where their prey went

Guyanese here, a few days ago there was an incident in orealla, rural area in the country, the perai did not in fact take a small bite out of him, most of his head and about half his neck went straight to bone and they left mere skeleton and a few chunks of meat on most his limbs, so as a warning, just be careful out in some rivers folks

It also depends on water level the lower the water is the less food they can get and they starve so they get more willing to eat whatever meat is there. My dad had a story where he saw a little girl fall in a pond and there were so many piranha fish that she was eaten instantly.
