Chopin Nocturne Op. 9 No. 1 in B-flat Minor (Arthur Rubinstein)

Nocturne in B-flat minor, Op. 9, No. 1; Played by Arthur Rubinstein.

For the more famous no. 2, please see rmannion's video. I am not going to upload what he has already done.

If you want the sheet music, here:

The first bar on slide #7 (2:44) is shortened because Chopin's original called for the previous section to be repeated, and Rubinstein did not repeat it. Therefore I spliced two slides, and was left one measure short of the full 4.

Rubinstein's recording ©1999 RCA Red Seal, now Sony Entertainment.

Every time I allow myself to think I've got this piece down, I listen to this performance and realise I've got another twenty years work left to do on it. Such outstanding phrasing and masterful dynamics, this guy was (and shall forever be) a legend.

One of my Chopin favourites. When my son was new born, this was the only thing he would fall asleep to.

I'm 17. Naturally, I like rock, rap, metal, punk, Alternative. But these days the most rebellious thing a teenager can do is listen to Classical. I have to admit, if it wasn't for a video game, (Eternal Sonata, ) I wouldn't be listening to this. And my god, what a beautiful song!

Chopin will probably go down in history as one of the best musicians on this planet, in human history. All of his songs impact my heart in some way, very influential.

As soon as I heard the first tinkle of notes, I knew I was going to fall in love with this.

I wish I could "like" this 100 times. Simply beautiful. I have been listening to it all morning, I can't bring myself to navigate away.

I literally discover new emotions every time I listen to a new Chopin piece.

Of course I know that when I play, I sound worse than Rubinstein's cat running on the piano.. But when you play it yourself and listen to yourself producing those mesmerising harmonies and heart-melting phrases, that feeling is just indescribable..

When you hear playing Arthur Rubinstein, you hear that the faster and louder interpretation sof some famous? new pianists will not exist in 30 years. Great musicians speek to us in a way that will exist in a houndred of years.

Chopin was a genious, all these nocturnes are absolutely beautiful and I can listen to them any day. It is the highest perfection of music, classical.

I can't explain the euphoric, calming aura this brings to my psyche. I cannot wait to relearn the cello to get back in touch with my musical roots. <3

Makes me think of a coffee machine that just keeps spilling out. There isn't a cup underneath it, the rich brown liquid just spills out and covers everything in it's bittersweet embrace.

yes, I did this one at the grade 10 level, the key is to get the emotion into it. I mastered this one so well, it made my grandmother cry. (She was my teacher for several years, I had to find another teacher when she retired a couple years before.)

Arthur Rubinstein; Chopin's best performer; such an incomparable interpreter of beautiful piano composition that Chopin himself would second.

Such a wonderful and hypnotic piece. I don't know which Nocturne of Chopin's I like better: The Eb Major (Op. 9 No. 2) or this.
