Song Meaning:
From Chris Cornell himself:
“It's about trying to step out of being patterned and closed off and reclusive, which I’ve always had a problem with.
It's about attempting to be normal and just go out and be around other people and hang out. I have a tendency to sometimes be pretty closed off and not see people for long periods of time and not call anyone. It's actually, in a way, a hopeful song. Especially the lines "One more time around/Might do it", which is basically saying, 'I tried today to understand and belong and get along with other people, and I failed, but I'll probably try again tomorrow.' A lot of people misinterpreted that song as a suicide-note song. Taking the word "live" too literally. "The Day I Tried to Live" means more like the day I actually tried to open up myself and experience everything that's going on around me as opposed to blowing it all off and hiding in a cave.”

really wish ppl would not scream at acoustic shows and be quiet and appreciate the artist and their music instead of listening to you scream and whistle. Yea we hear you and we all love this song. save it for the end of the song damn

I think it's better to have an audience who is silent, but listening intently at the artist's voice and capturing their true meaning instead of yelling and making noise. Also, now that Chris is gone, I'll never be able to see him live. I hope the afterlife treats you well. I'll never stop listening to your angelic voice.

I get goosebumps every time I listen to an acoustic version of this song. The way his voice rings because of the reverb, his vibrato-everything just hits me right in the feels. Chris’s voice always has and always will.
No one sings like you anymore, Chris. Rest In Peace brother.

I honestly think the audience is just part of the energy the performance gives.Kurt Cobain said “It's like a game of catch”🤷🏻‍♂️

Minus the drunk screamers, that was a good version of Chris playing the day I tried to live
