I have the 21" model. Great machete overall, I love the handle. The edge came rolled near where the blade fattens up, but that was easily fixed with a Lansky puck. At this price, it's tough to beat! Thanks, Cold Steel!

Everyone should have a couple of good machetes, very useful tools as well as the poor mans home defense weapon

24" sounds more up my street, got a serious overgrown garden right now, have a machete already but it needs sharpening nearly every time. Hope this one does, looks very sharp!

* If you're cutting bamboo, here's a little trick I found out. Bamoo is very strong as you would probably know, this is because it's pliancy and flexability. So if you want to cut it, you've got to put pressure on it by bending it over. While holding it back you can use your other hand to cut it, it will be ten times easier.

The latin machete is basically what I would personally consider to be the classic machete.

No one beats Cold Steel. They even have a Kukri machete and it is crazy awesome! Cheap and awesome quality for the price!

Good to hear... hopefully the smatchet's included. Have you guys ever thought about making a claw hammer? Maybe a polymer shaft, rubber grip and steel head? I'm sure you can add a unique CS twist to it too

I clamped mine (it was the 24" one) to a table. I wrapped some sandpaper tightly around a file, matched the angle of the factory grind (measured with my Sypderco Sharpmaker I think it's less than 30 degrees inclusive anyway), and started sharpening through a progression of finer grits. The grits I used were 80->320->1000->1500->2000. The machete came to me with their finish-covered edge that was a bit dull. Now it shaves leg hair.

It might be useful to note in the description or video, that the edges on the machetes used in the video are NOT the edges that come on the machete when they are bought. The machetes come with edges which are burred, over heated, barely apexed and covered in the coating which is applied to the blade.

i have to admit this is a very good machete i have this one and got it on my birthday it has been very strong it did bend a little but after heating it up and bending back it works even better i have chiped the head of the blade to hell but using my grandpas grinding wheel it should be good as new i also use this to chop wood and the black finish came off no problem and it workd great on wood very happy

machetes are usually not sharpened by the manufacturer, it is up to the customer to do the sharpening as it always was for the longest time.

@RaZoRChak: Since the Gator's blade is made from spring steel, it's meant to bend and not take damage.Unfortunately, I've found that the spring steel means that the blade is very thin, and as such, doesnt' quite have the heft I would expect from a machete.Although Gerber does say that the Gator is meant to cut brush and vines.

I will literally purchase any Cold Steel product if a video of Bandanna guy throwing said product is made, and that's a promise I'm willing to keep

I bought the cold steel panga. The edge mine came with was worthless, but it was very easy to sharpen it. The factory edge is what I would call "almost finished." Its not that it comes dull, but it is ground improperly and bends over very quickly.
After sharpening it worked well.

I got this machete from my best friend, when I was cutting bamboo in my neighbor's garden (its suitable for fingerthick bamboo*) but I noticed that because of the profiled handle I got a blister on my thumb. It does provide a fair grip, but at heavy use you'll get blisters. Easy way to fix this is putting a bicycle inner tube around the handle. Its an outsanding tool at a fair price( My friend bought it for 18 euro's, which is about 25 bucks)
