old title:
"you’re crouch jumping wrong. because of source spaghetti, there’s a right & wrong way to crouch jump"

FAQ:
Q: How did you make that? What editing software do you use?
A: I use Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro & After Effects. Photoshop for image editing and thumbnails. Premiere Pro for compositing and After Effects for motion graphics (the fancy animations).

I always hit both buttons at the same time, that explains why sometimes I'd just randomly fail jumps I knew were possible.

I didn't even know duck then jump was an option, I thought it was so much worse. There's always more spaghetti to learn about in the Source engine, I suppose.

WHAT THE HECK. I've been playing source games for over a decade and I literally always though crouch jumping was crouching mid air. My life's been a lie.

So that’s why I couldn’t jump onto payload cart from the back. But you can do it from the front. I always though you need the payload to smash into you just a tiny bit to clip alive the payload. Didn’t know it was just because I was just using the inferior jumping method

I never actually knew that there was another way to crouch jump. Thanks for the help, as always shounic!

This was actually one of the first things I learned when I was learning rocket jumping, crouching first is a little more difficult but gets you launched further bc there ain't no spaghetti like source spaghetti

This unironically makes sense, as if the mercs are putting more power into their jump.

"To get into these pipes, you'll have to signal your suit to make a duck jump. You'll want to stand right at the mouth of the pipe and continue to press forward. Then jump up and while you're in mid air, go into a crouch. It's tricky, but you'll find it comes in handy."
- Half-Life training course

Goldsrc on the other hand doesn't really let you jump from a crouch, partially because that's how you initiate a long jump in Half-Life.

I always assumed this was a purposeful holdover from how crouchjumping works in HL1. Very interesting video!

Ive always felt that jumping on to the cart was janky. Feels good to know it was just source spaghetti code and not my imagination gaslighting me lol

I always thought of crouch jumping like pulling your legs up in the air to reach higher ledges, but the right way is more like bending down to spring yourself up higher.

Weird how either can be intuitive with the right perspective.

I always thought crouch-jumping helped because it was shrinking your hitbox at feet-level instead of head-level, allowing you to creep over a slightly taller surface due to the location of your feet being higher than normal at the peek of your jump.

I KNEW there was a difference. I thought I was just lucky jumping on the cart sometimes. Crazy how such a little difference changes your movement.

I can always trust you to find the best hidden tech, great video and graphics as always

I figured this tech out on complete accident through Deathrun gameplay. When you need to make extremely precise and long jumps, that tiny bit of extra jump goes a long way.

Very proud to have actually known about something in a shounic video beforehand for once. I always noticed there were lots of objects (i.e. the railings on Harvest) that you had to crouch jump in this specific way to scale.

Welp, unlearning jump-crouch will be the next challenge run!
Really didn't think there'd be a change in jump height, let alone one that was so minor and still contribute to possible jump spots that were only barely out of reach! Thanks for sharing, mate!

I always knew something was up with jumping and crouching

It also worth mentioning that if you crouch for a split second and then jump, you will end up jumping lower, resulting in doing ctap(which allows you to make a higher rocketjump up to 691 regular is just about 630, since your bounding box is lower to the ground). it's only higher if you HOLD crouch then jump.
