The Toyota RAV4 has been transformed into a striking SUV with a bold new design. Not only does it look far more interesting, but the RAV4 is now only available as a petrol-electric hybrid. Aside from picking a colour, trim level and any options, your only other choice is between front or four-wheel drive. Ginny has been driving this new model to see how it compares to its family SUV rivals.

I rented one of these back in November 2019 for a winter adventure trip up to Scotland. Took it on ferries between islands and mountain trails. It coped beautifully throughout the 1, 400 miles round trip. Very comfortable and easy driving both on motorway and Highlands tracks, both in front and back. No matter what the terrain, the car always felt absolutely solid and safe. I also loved the rubber coated dials and chunky solid feel of the car. Petrol was good.
There were 4 adults and a baby in the car with loads of luggage, (suitcases, pushchair, etc..). The car coped adequately and all passengers were comfortable.
The one thing which let the car down, was, as the channel says, the absolutely appalling media and GPS screen system. Toyota ought to be be totally ashamed and embarrassed by this piece of junk. Having said this, the Bluetooth worked fine and once connected to my phone, we used the media system plus combination of Waze and Google Maps on my phone to navigate.
Whatever you do, DO NOT RELY ON THE TOYOTA GPS!!!! It didn't recognise half the places we wanted to visit, even after typing in postcodes or place names. Then, just as we got past Scotch corner on the A66, getting onto the A1(M), the whole screen froze. GPS was dead. Even when we stopped at a service station and left the car for about an hour. When we turned the car on again, the GPS was still frozen to the place about 60 miles back. It remained that way, all the way back to London. However, the next day, when I came to give the car back, the GPS had magically kicked back to life.
I don't live in the UK and where I live, the RAV4 is VERY expensive and I could not justify the extra expense over the 2020 Prius, which I bought recently., But had I had the money, I would have bought the Rav4.

We just sold a Lexus saloon and bought a 2020 Rav4. We are very pleased with it.
Everyone grizzles about the infotainment system, but I find it works well, especially
when using Android auto for navigation. Without Android Auto you still have voice
command navigation.Rav4's used to be 4WD, but they are now all AWD. We are getting

round about 50 mpg. It's also going to be far more reliable than any German brand.

Totally standard car for north america, they're everywhere here, high resale value, well built and reliable. Quite expensive in the UK but everything seems to be.

I think the new rav 4 looks astounding and much better than the old one.

I like the screen up near the eye line, its safer. I don't wan't Apple or Android, as long as its got Bluetooth and DAB I am all sorted. The Skoda Kojak is 100mm longer so of course has more boot, but to match the equipment on the Toyota in Excel trim would cost a fortune more. Plus a company car driver would pay a shed load more BIK.
Main problem is the long lead time.. Toyota can't make them quick enough!

Rav4 is a great FAMILY car. Cheap to buy and run. Reliable. Btw their hybrid engine is one of the most reliable engines ever built. I personally prefer the prev gen facelift ( 2016-2018) This one is a lit more american looking but ... the engine and awd are improved and inside is much refined.

So umm I just compared the infotainment screen to a 90s tv I’m pretty that the rav4s screen is smaller and thinner and if you bothered to listen they said the system will be updated with apple car play and android auto

I think it looks great. I am lusting for one. Don’t care if the infotainment is a bit clunky, it’s how the car drives that is more important for me.

Tired old motoring journalists flawed logic cliche. A load lip in a boot is helpful - stops things rolling out when opening and closing the boot.

This seems to be a review of the 2019 RAv4 Hybrid, not the 2020 as the title suggests. Disappointed and misled.

Apple Car Play will be available in RAV4 end of 2019, there will be also software upgrade for the actual Systems without Car Play! So no panic please :)

after test drove it i went with a old used Lexus RX Hybrid and guess its many km it drives far better, faster, , comfortable and more quiet than a new RV4. The V6 Hybrid is simply GREAT !

New RAV4 🚙 has only been available in UK 🇬🇧 since April 2019, so it's a current 2019 model, not 2020.
Only 🇺🇸 USA launches 2020 models in mid-2019 for some bizarre reason 🤷‍♀️ 😐

Toyota have told me the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto software upgrade will be available in 2020, I hope they’re true to their word because I agree with the review, it’s laughable for a car at this price point not to have it when all the competition does and they have Apple CarPlay on the US versions

Sorry stopped watching as there are many inaccuracies in this review

Bottom line is cost. Videos should state price relative to rivals and advise real world MPG. Also most people are unable to park a car correctly so parking aids and state turning circle info would be useful.
